Punch Lab, the future of your boxing training

Turn your boxing bag into a device that detects, measures and reacts to your punches.

What is Punch Lab?

Punchlab is a technology that will turn your boxing bag into a device that can detect, measure and react to your shots.

Without any additional device, other than the smartphone.

PunchLab is an app powered by sophisticated data analysis algorithms.

Use existing technology in your smartphone to provide real-time feedback on your bag training .

PunchLab is also a fighter club that is not satisfied with traditions.

They are creating them.

Fill out the form on the website to receive a free PunchLab club pass.

The company promises that this is just the beginning:

“We’re constantly partnering with the best gyms in the world to create pre-programmed routines that interact with your shots. PunchLab puts the best sneakers in the world, right on your punching bag.”

What you need to use Punch Lab

Once you get the pass, we help you find a belt to securely fix your smartphone on your bag and a send code to unlock all the features of the app.

You just need to have a lot at home or in the gym.

That’s it, no additional devices are needed to get the best punching experience.

How to place your phone on the bag and use Punch Lab

Very easy.

It’s full of racing belts that work just as well with PunchLab.

You simply wrap them around the sack instead of around your waist and this will do the trick.

On the site they have selected for you a couple of popular websites that sell them including Amazon Italia.

You can’t use it without the belt because soon some features will be added that you can use while you wait for the belt.

Like a version of shadow boxing and like a boxing timer but to use it you need a belt.

How does Punch Lab work?

PunchLab, like all the biggest tech revolutions of recent times, is software-based. We don’t need any special hardware to give you what you need.

Our app uses existing technology built into any smartphone to detect the strength, intensity and number of shots thrown at the bag.

Our adaptive algorithms learn from your warnings and will become better and better as you use the app.

How much does PunchLab cost?

This is interesting because it doesn’t cost anything at the moment.

Punch Lab is an invitation-only club and the company is not looking for money but they are looking for people who want to work with them to build the best technology for combat sports.

Punch Lab is still an experimental project.

They want to follow anyone who uses Punch Lab closely and collect as much data as possible.

Things could change at any time, to be notified when Punch Lab is on sale follow them on Instagram.

How to get access to the Club Punch Lab

The company is looking for people willing to test how far we can push the limits of boxing bag training.

Anyone can apply.

We will gradually add more and more people with time.

The chances of getting in have nothing to do with the amount of followers you have, or how many wins you have under your belt.

Do you have access to a bag?

Fill out this form, we’re looking for people like you.

How PunchLab works

During the construction of PunchLab we tried to cover the most important types of bag training. Together with professional athletes and coaches we have designed four essential training modes:

With Freestyle training you can do your routine and use the app as a timer and see statistics during and after training.

The workouts are specially designed to work on cardio and fitness.

Each workout has a set of pre-programmed intensity profiles that you need to follow to get the highest score. This way you’re motivated to push harder, even when you feel like you want to give up!

Tired of always throwing the same shots?

Combined training is a great alternative to bearing training.

When you have no one to hold the pads with for you, PunchLab will show you the strike combinations and analyze the strength and timing of your strikes.

We learned about the high-intensity training field (HIIT) on the field, talking to professional and Olympic boxers.

Short bursts of high activity are the best way to increase your power and explosiveness, which are skills that turn a blow into a knockout punch.

Don’t you need to always look at the monitor?

No, the Freestyle training mode is designed for people who want to train their routine and look at your smartphone once in a while or between rounds .

The app will still show your activity and give you acoustic feedback, but you’re free to train at your own pace.

Everything you do will still be recorded and you can see it later!

How can you feel the movements of the bag?

Like many things you hit in workouts, bags move when you hit them and it might be hard to focus on your phone at first.

Always keep in mind that:

It will get better with time, you will learn to keep your eyes on the phone and increase concentration while you give a punch.

Use only bags suitable for your power of the shots because on the market there are bags too light for the average weight of a person.

You might hit the bag too hard!

Find a heavier bag or reduce the strength of your fists by working on speed and volume.

And remember: punch the bag, don’t push it!

Try to mount the bag so that it hits right in the middle.

Both horizontally, but more important: vertically.

This is the best way to reduce the rotation and oscillation of the heavy bag.

Punch the bag in its original position.

You will learn to control the bag and react quickly to its movements.

Does that sound like something useful in a real fight?

Finally, but very important: use your legs.

The footwork is the most underrated aspect of martial arts, especially when people work in the sack.

PunchLab doesn’t let you be lazy.

Turn around the bag and constantly move to keep your phone in front of you at all times.

Punch Lab developers are considering providing tools to create your workouts, share them with other fighters, or even sell them!

If it’s something interesting and because you want this write directly to (if you write to himtell him you read the post on )

The best experience is with active sounds, but they are not required to use the app.

You can mute at any time or use bluetooth earbuds to get the most out of the app.

But will the phone continue to work given the blows?

Surely it is a legitimate question and during the extensive tests of Punch Lab, it never happened.

Just mount your phone at a height that you are not likely to hit, usually slightly above the level of your head.

Ps. My advice is to use a used smartphone!

It mounts on any bag

The Punch Lab app works with pretty much any kind of boxing bag.

But the recommended belt is designed for suspended and standing cylindrical bags with a diameter of between 60 and 120 cm.

These are the most common models you can find in online stores or combat and fitness gyms.

Make sure to fit the bag properly, use a proper length chain and a sufficiently heavy bag.

Works with all shots, even kicks

Of course, Punch Lab records and analyzes every shot you give it.

This can be very interesting because working with any type of shot you may have more chances but it has a flaw compared to other trackers.

Punch lab can’t detect the type of shot, not yet.

Developers believe that at the moment there are more important features to focus on.

To request this feature, and whatever else you have in mind, they are available to request the feature.

Detection of the type of shot for me is an important element because you can build statistics and also understand what are the strongest shots specifically and go to increase where there are more drains elements but this can be done only if you have the identification of the shot.

Although I must say that such a free product is already an important tool to do many specific jobs and monitor with the appropriate exercises even individual shots.

Does PunchLab count your shots?

He does. But there are still some factors that affect the reliability of the punch detector. If you’re having trouble, try:

  • Use a heavier bag.
  • If you’re using a bag that’s too light for your punches, and excessive wobble can add more punches to the final count.
  • Avoid very long strings that hold the bag. These create a resonance effect that could affect fist detection.
  • Hit near the center of the bag. This is also how it should be done to avoid injury and will reduce the swing and rotation of the sack.

Keep in mind that the more you work out, the better our algorithms will detect your fists.

PunchLab is looking for people who want to help them build new training courses. Email

Now we are talking about your gym where it has many hanging bags!

With PunchLab, you can turn every bag you have in the gym into a state-of-the-art performance lab.

They are very interested in collaborating with gyms.

Fill out the form you find on the site or write an email, they respond to you very quickly.

Sure. They have already implemented a simple sharing of results. Do you have any special metrics that you want to track? Write to

They’re already working with the best gyms and fighters out there.

The feedback they’re getting is helping them improve the app more and more every day.

Are they already changing the face of combat sports?

It’s still too early to say but for Punchlab it’s a good start.

Application website:

I find it an interesting and ambitious tool and I really like that.

The detection with objective data is something very important for a trainer who has to monitor himself if he trains only in training or the athletes he trains.

Surely one of the problems is to always use the same bag, to always place the same height the smartphone with the app, use the same smartphone, and it would be interesting to be able to detect the type of shot to have a statistic of volume of shots.

Also you are limited to the heavy bag while it is also important to do this type of exercises to the strikers (focus pad / pao / etc.)

To detect the power i can create specific exercises and routines but surely they are elements that over time will be refined by inserting additional elements.

Kudos to PunchLab for two important reasons, research in combat sports to give training tools and for giving this app for free as a detection tool.

Good luck with your work!
