Il balisong è una invenzione italiana

Il butterfly Knife o balisong (detto anche coltello a farfalla o in lingua inglese butterfly knife) è un coltello di origine filippina, così detto per la particolarità del manico, che viene aperto in due parti longitudinalmente, per scoprire la lama.

Detto anche il contenitore di potere, il balisong è un coltello dalle caratteristiche incredibili.

Come detto la particolarità del coltello sta nell’impugnatura che aprendosi longitudinalmente permette di scoprire la lama, quasi sempre monofilare.

L’apertura è realizzata in modo che possa essere eseguita con una mano sola, e con un po’ di esercizio è possibile farlo in maniera decisamente rapida.

Inoltre il coltello chiuso può essere utilizzato come un Palm Stick o come Kubotan.

Curiosità:

✔Il Balisong è una delle armi tradizionali del kali, un’arte marziale filippina, ma è un coltello molto diffuso nel sud est asiatico.

Come vedete dalla immagine successivo è fatto da pochi semplici elementi ma che richiedono per un buon bilanciamento una buona precisione.

✔ Data la sua capacità di mascheramento della lama e la pericolosità di quest’ultima, l’uso del balisong è illegale in Giappone, Canada, Germania, Norvegia, Svizzera, Hong Kong e negli Stati Uniti.

✔ Il balisong in realtà deriva da un coltello di origine franco-genovese. (di nuovo gli italiani ;-))

Anche se ormai è una opinione largamente condivisa che il balisong sia un coltello nato nelle Filippine, in realtà è di origine franco-genovese.

Era infatti un coltello impiegato dagli artiglieri navali almeno dal ‘700.

Sul manico erano presenti diverse tacche, utili per aggiustare l’alzo dei cannoni mentre la sua punta veniva usata per preparare l’accensione e per svolgere altre operazioni di routine.

Il design del coltello, pensato per essere aperto ed utilizzato con una sola mano, si prestava particolarmente ad essere impiegato in servizio sulle navi.

Un esemplare di questo coltello, datato 1791, è esposto al Musée de la Coutellerie a Thiers in Francia.

✔ Il coltello Farfalla, Papillon o Balisong o anche Butterfly in inglese è sorto alla XVIº secolo, alle Filippine.

Inventato da un soldato armaiolo in occasione dell’invasione spagnola.

I conquistadores spagnoli avevano proibito alla popolazione di portare armi per limitare i rischi di ci ribellavamo.

Questo coltello, che all’inizio somigliava ad una gamma Castigliano era facile da dissimulare e passava inosservato.

Poco a poco, la fabbricazione è evoluta verso la forma che noi conosciamo ora.

✔ Il Balisong è fatto con diverse forme di lama e di sistemi di scorrimento per permettere una apertura veloce e precisa.

Per questo si sono sviluppati moltissimi trick di apertura.

Una caratteristica del balisong è che lo si può utilizzare anche come un kubotan tenendolo chiuso e all’occorrenza aprirlo.

Una caratteristica non indifferente in un contesto di difesa personale per avere uno strumento versatile.

In commercio esistono balisong da training che non hanno il filo della lama per potersi esercitare nei vari Trick anche se è necessario usare il balisong vero perchè devi riuscire a controllare e “rispettare” la lama.

All’inizio per evitare di tagliarti puoi anche mettere del nasto sulla lama.
